Steph Says: Looking Forward to Spring

Savannah St. Patrick's Day - SavSt.Pat _ Pipes and Drums.jpg

As we shake off winter here in New England and look towards Spring..March is filled with the optimism of new beginnings.

Some of my favorite things about March are:

St Patrick’s Day in Newport Rhode Island- we have the best parade ever and it has been named 1 of the Top 5 parades in the USA.  I have been attending this parade since I was a little girl and now I get to bring my girls. I’ll see you on Thames Street, March 16th Rain or Shine.

Spring Forward and set the clocks ahead…I know it can be tough the first few days after we switch the clocks but I do LOVE the extra daylight. The snow starts to melt and the crocuses start to peep out of the ground.  I have to agree with the New York Times article..let’s just skip all the confusion and stop the switching of the clocks. What do you think?

Full Moon in March is also a very auspicious time. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, this full moon reaches its peak on the same day as the Spring Equinox, which also occurs on Mar. 20. The last time these two events coincided this closely was back in the year 2000, and the last time they occurred on the same date was back in 1981. So take some time to look up in the sky and enjoy.

I am also super excited about our March Spot Light Product…JAVA Illuminating Eye Serum is packed with antioxidants to gently correct the delicate skin around the eyes. We’ve blended some of nature’s most beautiful oils together to restore skin’s elasticity, reduce the look of dark circles and wrinkles, prevent moisture loss and protect skin from free-radical damage.

We are offering a FREE 5ml sample of Eye Serum with every purchase on our website of $50.00 or more. No code needed it will be included in your order. And as always because it is our spotlight product the eye serum is on sale o=for 10% off. Check it out at www.javaskincare.com.

Travel Hacks: Tips to Beat Jet Lag, Lines, Theft, Hangovers- part 4

So many of us are on the road between Thanksgiving and Christmas through New Years. We have organized email and posts from JAVA Members with clever tips to ease your mind and to make your trips easy.

Visit a local supermarket- It’s one way to boost your vocabulary and feel more comfortable parsing menus in a foreign language. Plus, you’ll walk away with affordable souvenirs that provide more insights into a country’s culture than the airport duty free. Want to take this hack to the next level? Keep the plastic shopping bag. Walking around with groceries (or what looks like them) is one of the easiest ways to blend in with the hometown crowd, wherever you go.

Watch for a flight delay domino effect- Check the FlightRadar24 app to make sure my plane has left its originating city before you head to the airport, It decreases the pain and agony by 50 percent.

X out your hangover- Leave it to the Brazilians to have the most effective hangover cure ever. One JAVA Tribe member recommends Engov, an all-in-one caffeine and painkiller pill you take before and after drinking, stored in a gold, condom like package. It’s so popular, you can buy it on Amazon.

Your hotel room’s most overlooked amenity is the ironing board- Use it as a standing desk, a place to eat, or an activity table for kids. (And let housekeeping worry about your ironing.)

Zap jet lag- Vitamin D is better than melatonin for fighting inflammation, strengthening your immune system, and regulating your internal clock. A JAVA Tribe member who is a flight attendant says you should do as the crew does and skip all your in-flight meals. “At super high altitudes, your digestive system shuts down completely,” she explains, adding that when you deplane, “your body can’t keep up with the culinary backlog.” A travel agent always hits the ground running when she arrives – she goes for a jog.

What is your favorite travel hack?

Travel Hacks: Tips to Beat Jet Lag, Lines, Theft, Hangovers- part 2

So many of us are on the road between Thanksgiving and Christmas into New Years. We have organized email and posts from JAVA Members with clever tips to ease your mind and to make your trips easy.

Book a top chef’s favorite restaurant. Can’t get a seat at the five-star restaurant? Ask the hostess where the chef likes to eat. This trick yields hidden gems+ where you can likely find a table.

Google Map your way to good eats. Use the “search this area” feature to find restaurants nearby. Add filters: No rating below a 4, open now; and no sushi in, say, Indianapolis. Your meal, your rules.

Don’t choose the highest-rated spots; go instead for the ones with the most reviews. They’re the places people feel most strongly about—con as well as pro— so they should provoke an opinion from you, too. Diving into a restaurant debate in a far-off land is part of the adventure!

Jam your jacket into a little sack. Travelers flying across different climates tend to wrestle with a tough choice: lugging around a winter jacket where it makes no sense, or freezing without a coat upon landing back at home. Buying a down jacket that can be stuffed into an inside pocket. It’s as small as a makeup bag, so you avoid coat check wherever you go.

Know the local time everywhere. Watches with GMT or world time functions reduce the need to set and reset your time zone.

Let the sneaks out of the bag. Tie yours to the outside of his backpack by the laces—it saves tons of precious luggage space.

Our favorite tip is the JAVA Jet Set travel kit. Our TSA approved kit includes mini JAVA Body Serum, mini JAVA Body Wash, mini JAVA Wonderbar and mini JAVA Body Scrub and to keep your lips hydrated our Demitasse Lip Balm.

Let us know your travel hacks.

Travel Hacks: Tips to Beat Jet Lag, Lines, Theft, Hangovers

So many of us are on the road between Thanksgiving and Christmas and into New Years Eve. So we have organized emails and posts from JAVA Members with clever tips to ease your mind and to make your trips easy.

CLEAR is better than Pre-Check. It takes seconds to sign up for this expedited security service, now at 21 U.S. hubs. Its user base is still relatively small. That means you’ll rarely wait long in Clear’s priority TSA lanes

Divvy up the duties with the children. Have one parent board early to claim overhead space while the other tires out the children for as long as possible at the gate, where they’re free to run around.

Essentials! Don’t forget …

* A headphone splitter if you’ve got a travel buddy

* Single-serve instant coffee

* A reflexology massager

* A mobile hotspot

* Fashion tape for a clothing emergency

* Allergy medicine/ aspirin

* Probiotic pills/ diarrhea pills

* iPhone lightning dongle

Fanny pack it- One writer says the elegant way to get around the one-carry-on, one-personal-item rule on planes is to pack small items in this retro accessory.

Optimize your in-flight beauty routine. Here’s what we advise to pack so you can step off a plane looking like the millions of bucks you are worth.

* For supple skin: JAVA Body Serum mini

* For soft hair: JAVA Body Wash mini

* For rosy cheeks: JAVA Blossom Duo – rub into your cheek

* For brighter eyes: JAVA Eye Serum

* Marc Jacobs Highliner gel eye crayon ( $25)

* For a pop of color: MAC Cosmetics lipsticks in So Chaud, Girl About Town, and Coral Optix ( $18.50 each)

Send your suit/ garment bag to first class. Ask the flight attendants to hang your garment bag up in the front of the plane, no matter how far back your assigned seat. They’ll rarely say no. (Just don’t forget to pick it up after you land!)

We hope these tips help you to have a great trip!

March Holidays Rhode Island Style

Spring is almost here!!! Time to celebrate!

Pretty much everyone knows about St. Patrick’s Day, right? In Rhode Island, we have several annual parades, including one in Newport that becomes quite the all-day into evening party (and we know from experience). You may even be lucky enough to see a leprechaun or two around town.

We also celebrate another holiday that you may not be as familiar with only  two days after the Irish party. Its called St. Joseph’s Day, and its kind of like the Italian version of St. Patrick’s Day, with a few differences. Here in Little Rhody, instead of green we wear red and instead of drinking Guinness we eat these amaaaazing Italian pastries called zeppoles. It’s said that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, and on St. Joseph’s Day we can all be Italian and enjoy the delectable pastries made especially for this holiday.

I guess you can add that to list of things we do or say a little differently in Rhode Island, along with coffee milk (like chocolate milk but better), bubblers (water fountains), and cabinets (milk shakes) to name a few. Happy March from our weird and wonderful state to yours!
